10mm f/5.6 OP Fisheye-Nikkor, pre-AIShop OnlineMore... MINT £20,000.00

NEAR NEW. Exceptionally rare. Complete with finder, Front & rear caps, original maker's box. We have NEVER seen such a complete example in our entire history of 30 years. The OP Fisheye-Nikkor 10mm f/5.6 was released in 1968 and was the world's first lens to project an orthographic image onto the film plane. It was also a milestone design inasmuch as it was the first SLR lens in the world to incorporate the fiendishly difficult to produce aspheric element (as used in the most expensive Schmidt telescope designs). The subjects in the centre of the image appear larger than those at the edges, and the entire field is thus evenly illuminated. The OP creates a round image with a diameter of 20mm. This lens is used on the Nikon F or F2 with the mirror-up and with a separate finder mounted on the accessory shoe (finder supplied with lens). Focal length: 10mm, Angle of view: 180°, Aperture scale: f/5.6-f/22, 9 elements in 6 groups, Filters: Built-in, L1A, Y48, Y52, 056, R60 & X0, Fixed focus, 84mm dia. x 105mm length, Weight: 380g, DF-1 fisheye finder. The lens provides a reproduction ratio of 1:2. To reach a reproduction ratio of 1:1, it’s necessary to use an M2 extension ring. The lens may be used as a normal lens and focuses out to infinity. As the lenses focused on nearer subject, the aperture opens automatically. Because the front lens is so deeply set, a lens hood isn’t necessary. Engraved on the side are the reproduction ratios 1:1 through 1:1.5 up to 1:2. It also features a diamond ribbed focusing barrel.

Introduced: May 1968

Weight: 11.8oz (335g)

In May 1968, this newly-developed Perspective Control lens replaced the earlier 35mm f/3.5 shift-Nikkor. This new faster version has a scalloped focusing ring and finely ridged aperture and aperture preset rings. A silver-coloured screw on the side is used to shift the lens. The apertures are partially engraved in colour, and a millimetre scale with 12 graduations indicates the displacement of the lens. 12 notches at increments of 30° around the optical axis are used to set the angle of rotation.

RARE - COLLECTOR'S GRADE! COMES COMPLETE WITH DOME SHAPED FRONT CAP, NIPPON KOGAKU REAR CAP AND SPECIAL FINDER!
Together with the 6mm f/2.8 lens, this is the widest of the Fisheye-Nikkor lenses, with an angle of view of 220°. With its 6mm focal length and extremely wide coverage, subjects slightly behind the camera will also be included in the image. There are six filters built in on a rotating turret: L1A (Skylight), Y48 & Y52 (light and medium yellow), R60 (Red), XO (green) and O57 (orange). The aperture range is: f/5.6 to f/22, Elements/groups: 9/6. Diaphragm: Manual. Compact and lightweight - only 430 grams. Separate 160° Fisheye Viewfinder (DF-1) for bright viewing. The lens cannot be used with Nikon cameras that do not have a provision for locking the mirror in the "up" position. This lens was only available by special order. Apparently, the 6mm Fisheye-Nikkor was originally produced as a survey lens for the National Arctic Survey to take pictures of the whole sky and cloud formations unhindered. First production: January 1969. Our research suggests that serial numbers began with 656001(excluding five prototypes) and apparently LESS THAN 100 WERE PRODUCED MAKING THIS ONE OF THE RAREST LENSES MADE BY NIKON!

*Definition: Nikon digital SLRs have either an FX or a DX sensor. The FX sensor, measuring 24x36mm, is roughly equivalent to the size of the 35mm film frame. The DX sensor is smaller, measuring 15.8x23.6mm.

DX-NIKKOR lenses are engineered and optimized for use on Nikon DX-format D-SLRs and are designed to cover the smaller image area of the DX sensor. When a DX lens is mounted on an FX-format Nikon D-SLR, the cameras DX-Crop Mode is automatically engaged, introducing a 1.5x magnification (cropping) factor.
